Description
This role is specialized to intellectual property (IP) paralegal tasks as performed in a corporate environment including preparation of executive reports including spend management and inventor award programs, communications with senior level executives, and formulation of IP budgets for internal financial requests. Further, this role will manage of the Strategic Client Solutions (SCS) paralegal staff in law firm type roles who may be located in multiple locations including, but not limited to, Nicaragua and US. This role will also provide direct client services, including secondment.
Location
Remote with in-office and client visits as needed, and with travel as required including travel to Managua, Nicaragua.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Managing and providing instructions to SCS team of intellectual property (IP) paralegals including onboarding of portfolios, assess state of incoming portfolios and directing related updates such as change of name or ownership updates, review non-disclosure agreements and input pertaining to agreements, provide mergers/acquisition support, and corporate review projects
- Conducting and/or leading research projects and preparing corresponding reports
- Participating in in-person and telephonic meetings with internal and external clients including gathering client feedback and requirements
- Corresponding with internal and external clients and addressing inquiries regarding SCS services
- Training new and existing team members on aspects of paralegal support including preparation of budget/financial reports and analysis, invention disclosure processes, inventor award program oversight/reports, review of portfolios for onboarding purposes, and streamlining of projects for client savings
- Working closely with SCS Director to foster development of and to motivate SCS team for achieving common goals
- Assisting in onboarding of new corporate SCS clients including coordinating various aspects of billing, work instructions, and client procedures
- Creating documentation for internal and external use
- Overseeing and providing requirements for development of new features in Murgitroyd’s internal databases as needed to support SCS clients
- Performing overflow project and reporting support
- Preparing internal billing and contribution reports for work related to corporate clients
- Providing occasional business development (BD) tasks and support for BD team of offerings related to corporations
- Compose letters of engagement and statements of work for new SCS corporate clients
Key Performance Indicators
- Leading projects in all phases (requirements gathering to invoicing) with assistance of IP paralegals wherein client feedback/satisfaction is positive
- Forming relationships with clients and addressing customer service issues as needed for SCS clients for positive outcomes
- Learning different aspects of Murgitroyd systems including the Live, Address Master, Job Cards and Invoice databases
- Maintaining an understanding of global patent prosecution from a corporate perspective
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in the field of intellectual property (IP) or patents
- Extensive experience of in-house IP or patent administrative support
- Experience in training IP or patent administrative support personnel
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to travel internationally including to Nicaragua
- Availability for client calls and in-person meetings
- Experience working with internal clients/stakeholders in an in-house IP department
- Ability to work the occasional non-standard hours (e.g., early morning/late evening/weekend client meetings, time sensitive projects)
Preferred
- Experience leading teams of paralegals or other in-house staff
- Expertise in multiple docketing (e.g., Anaqua, DocketTrak, FoundationIP, CPi, IPFolio, Pattsy)
- College degree
- Fluency in Spanish
